Frieze Los Angeles 2020

— Feb 15, 2020 by YIART

February can be described as an extraordinary and busy period in Los Angeles because of numerous important events holding in this month. For example, the 92nd Academy Awards ceremony just ended on February 10th and followed by the art fairs such as Felix Art Fair, Art Los Angeles Contemporary, Spring / Break Art Show, and Frieze Los Angeles.

Among these art fairs, Frieze LA can be regarded as the highlight. Frieze LA was introduced in 2019, which has become one of the vital art events in Los Angeles. The Frieze Art Fair has been seen as the most iconic contemporary art fair in the UK and even in Europe. It was started in 2003 by the founders Amanda Sharp and Matthew Slotover. Since then, Frieze has become an annual event in London every October.

As its business expanded, Frieze Art Fair decided to launch the art fair in the United States. Except for Frieze New York, the most recent highlight is Frieze LA for sure, especially when the first edition has successfully attracted many Hollywood stars. This year, the second edition of Frieze LA can be said to be highly anticipated. Coinciding the Academy Awards ceremony, it is located in the Paramount Pictures Studios this year. It bringing together more than 70 galleries from all over the world, including David Zwirner, Gagosian, Hauser & Wirth, Pace Gallery, and other well-known galleries. The exhibition will run from Valentine's day until the 16th.

Famous names such as Jennifer Lopez, Alex Rodriguez, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kendall Jenner were be found on the fair's VIP preview day.

Compare to the joyful atmosphere in American, the vibe in Asia could be described as miserable for this moment. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, most exhibitions have been called off or postponed considering public health safety. For example, the Art Basel Hong Kong and Art Central Hong officially announced their cancellation on February 7. Many exhibitions in Taiwan (such as Taipei International Book Fair, Taipei Game Show, and others) have decided to postpone the event until the next quarter.
