Ushijima Ko Solo Exhibition

3/15/-5/25/2018

Born in 1980 in Yokohama, Japan, Ushijima Ko received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Kanazawa College of Art in 2003. He is an active painter and has been featured in both shows and publications in Japan. His works are centered on experiential painting that follows through scratching lines into paper, sketching his life into his work, and adding paint to the page, creating work that is free in spirit and full of the artist’s emotion.

Ushijima's art moves and flows through different thematic elements, such as physical movement, small animals and creatures, and abstract depictions of time and space. His work aims to express the nuances and feelings that arise in day-to-day life.

Although his work appears unified and simple, Ushijima uses a multitude of mediums to create his work including acrylic pigments, mineral pigments, oil pastel, ink, pencil and more to create the rich layers and lines within his works. Ushijima expresses the complexity of his life experiences within his works, touching the inner emotions of his audience. Though all we see are the shapes on the page, we can easily engage with the artist's spiritual world.
