B&W

12.20.2025-1.30.2026

At the close of 2025, we mark the end of the year with a concise yet charged exhibition—B&W.

In this exhibition, the works return to their most fundamental and essential state: form and meaning. Black and white may appear simple, yet they are the most revealing of gesture, material, and emotional weight. Stripped of color, the works speak with greater clarity and directness. Bringing together prints, photography, sculpture, and calligraphy, the exhibition presents black and white as expanded into distinct layers and visual languages through the hands of different artists—some restrained, others charged with tension.

Positioned at year’s end, the exhibition serves as a moment of reflection and consolidation, as well as a gesture of reset. We hope that each visitor, moving through these seemingly restrained works, may find a rhythm of their own—or simply enjoy a rare moment of quiet.

Spanish master Antoni Tàpies (1923–2012) is renowned for his raw textures and symbolic vocabulary, and is regarded as one of the most important Spanish artists following Picasso, Dalí, and Miró. His works consistently distill a near-spiritual gravity from materials in their most elemental state.

Also from Spain, sculptor Eduardo Chillida (1924–2002) worked primarily with iron, granite, and other weighty materials to create forms that seem to breathe within space. His public sculptures can be found around the world, and in 1958 he was awarded the International Sculpture Prize at the Venice Biennale. Chillida’s work embodies a balance between force and stillness, uniting mass and void into a presence of remarkable tension. This exhibition presents commemorative posters and prints issued by the Chillida Leku Museum.

The photographic works are represented by Daniel Lee (1945–), featuring iconic black-and-white images from his early career. From photographing the Harlem Dance Theater to major international arts festivals, Li is known for his acute visual sensitivity in capturing the body, movement, and fleeting moments of light. Having lived in New York for many years, his works are held in the collections of major international museums.

Taiwanese artist Hsia Yang (1932–) absorbed diverse cultural influences during his early years in Paris and New York. From his well-known Mao Mao Ren series to later works incorporating folk mythology, he has continually moved across media. The cursive calligraphy presented in this exhibition is free and unadorned, yet marked by a distinctive rhythm—each stroke seeming to gather traces of a life lived across different parts of the world.

Danish artist Charlotte Nielsen (1965–) works with clay as her primary language, merging ancient Nordic culture, natural forces, and industrial remnants into forms uniquely her own. Since establishing her studio in 2008, she has occupied an irreplaceable position within contemporary Nordic ceramics through her bold and assured sculptural language. Her works carry a sense of quiet gravity, with surfaces reminiscent of oxidized metal, as though long-held memories were embedded somewhere between black and white.
