2019 Art Basel Hong Kong

The annual Art Basel once again debuts at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Hong Kong! The four-day art fair will start from the VIP preview on March 27th to March 30th. The opening night will be held on March 28th and will be open to the public from March 29th to 31st.

This year's seventh Art Basel Hong Kong will bring together 242 top galleries from 35 countries and regions including Asia, Europe, North and South America, the Middle East and Africa. 21 of them participate for the first time in Art Basel Hong Kong. The main exhibition zone "Galleries" will bring together 196 galleries. The 21 art galleries in the "Insights" zone will feature solo exhibitions or joint exhibitions. The“Discoveries” zone will showcase solo exhibitions of emerging artists from 25 galleries.

The "Kabinett" focuses on Asian artists and presents 21 conceptual creation projects by well-known and emerging artists such as Wang Pan-Youn and Lee Bul. This year's "Encounters" exhibition is curated by Alexie Glass-Kantor, Executive Director of Art Space in Sydney. With the theme of "Still We Rise", there will be 12 institutional-scale installations created by artists including Lee Bul, Tony Albert, Shiota Chiharu, etc. will be presented. Hauser & Wirth

Hauser & Wirth has co-organized the solo exhibition of Louise Bourgeois at the Shanghai’s Long Museum and the Beijing’s Song Art Museum. Hauser & Wirth will present works by several female artists such as Rita Ackermann, Phyllida Barlow, Louise Bourgeois, Mary Heilmann, Jenny Holzer and Maria Lassnig at the Art Basel Hong Kong this year.

Lisson Gallery

Lisson Gallery, which will set up their first space in Asia in Shanghai, China in March this year, has represented countless famous artists such as Marina Abramović, Ai Weiwei, Tatsuo Miyajima, Ufan Lee, Carmen Herrera, Anish Kapoor and Julian Opie etc. This year's Art Basel Hong Kong, Lisson Gallery will present recent works and new works by artists such as Ai Weiwei, Tony Cragg, Ryan Gander, Rodney Graham, Carmen Herrera, Anish Kapoor, Ufan Lee, Tatsuo Miyajima, Julian Opie etc.

Tanya Bonakdar Gallery

Over the past two decades, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery has helped countless contemporary artists in developing their artist career, these artists including Martin Boyce, Olafur Eliasson, Ernesto Neto, Tomás Saraceno, etc. The works presented in the gallery across all the media such as painting, sculpture, installation art, photography and video. This year, Tanya Bonakdar Gallery will be presenting new works by artists such as “Stutter”by Sarah Sze, “Earth rise”by Olafur Eliasson, new work by Mark Manders, and others. Sarah Sze is a well-known American artist who uses discarded cartons, light bulbs, plastics and other daily life items as installations. She represented the United States at the 2013 Venice Biennale.

Marian Goodman Gallery

The American established gallery Marian Goodman Gallery has put in the effort in promoting the development of contemporary art since its inception 42 years ago. This year Marian Goodman Gallery will be presenting works by artists such as Nairy Baghramian, John Baldessari, Tony Cragg, Maurizio Cattelan, Thomas Struth, Gabriel Orozco, William Kentridge, Lawrence Weiner and Hiroshi Sugimoto in Art Basel Hong Kong.

David Zwirner

David Zwirner, who just announced that they will represent Chinese artist Liu Ye, has galleries in New York, London and Hong Kong. This year, David Zwirner will present four new works by Swiss artist Carol Bove, as well as works by Oscar Murillo, Liu Ye, Wolfgang Tillmans, Francis Alÿs, Michaël Borremans, Josef Albers and Josh Amith.

Blum & Poe

Since its inception in 1994, the Blum & Poe Gallery, which has galleries in Los Angeles, New York and Tokyo, has expanded its influence in the art world by participating in world-class exhibitions and important art fairs. This year's Art Basel Hong Kong, Blum & Poe will be presenting works by Mohamed Bourouissa, Ha Chong-Hyun, Yukie Ishikawa, Yikonori Yanagi, Karel Appel, Friedrich Kunath, as well as Kishio Suga, one of the active members of “Mono-ha”.,.

Eslite Gallery

Since its inception in 1989, Eslite Gallery has been dedicated to fostering and promoting Chinese contemporary art. The artists represented include international well-known artists such as Hsia Yan, Michael Lin, Cai Guo-Qiang, Liu Xiaodong and Xu Bing. In this year Art Basel Hong Kong, The Basel in Hong Kong, Eslite Gallery will be presenting a solo exhibition by famous Chinese artist Liu Xiaodong. The exhibition will showcase nearly 30 pieces of oil paintings, watercolors, prints and papers created by Liu Xiaodong since 2008.

TKG+

TKG+, a Taiwanese gallery with the mission of promoting contemporary art with potential. The list of artists exhibited this year is similar with last year, includes artists such as Chia-En Jao, Chou Yu-Cheng, Joyce Ho, Chen Ching-Yuan, Mit Jai Inn, Sawangwongse, who continue to recommend works with strong contemporary ideas. The installation work of Mit Jai Inn will also be on display at “Encounters”.

Chi-Wen Gallery

Founded in 2004, Chi-Wen Gallery is one of the major galleries in Taiwan's early efforts to develop new media art. This year's Art Basel Hong Kong, Chi-Wen Gallery will present works by Bruce Mitchell, Ed Santos, Chang Chien-Chi, James T. Hong, Yuan Goang-Ming, Yu Cheng-Ta, Victoria Sin and Su Misu in the "Galleries" zone. Chang Chien-Chi’s film "Azma" will presented at "Film" zone.

Sies + Höke

Since its inception in 1999, the Sies + Höke has hosted exhibitions of various media and art genre. Sies + Höke will present works by Lothar Hempel, Jonathan Meese, Julian Charrière, Marcel Dzama and Sophie von Hellermann in Art Basel Hong Kong this year. Among them, the concept of the "Dictatorship of Art" by the famous German conceptual artist Jonathan Meese explores the revolution, the failure of ideology, and the role and power of art through exaggerated installations, paintings, sculptures and performances.

Esther Schipper

The Esther Schipper, known for its long-standing and time-based conceptual projects with artists, has been working with artists such as Angela Bulloch, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Pierre Huyghe and Philippe Parreno since the 1990s. The works of these artists involve a wide range of practices. This year's Art Basel Hong Kong, Esther Schipper Gallery will present works by artists such as Ugo Rondinone, Julia Scher, Philippe Parreno, Tomás Saraceno, Simon Fujiwara, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Ceal Floyer and Martin Boyce.

Gladstone Gallery

The Gladstone Gallery, with offices in New York and Brussels, represents more than 50 artists, as well as major foundations. Gladstone Gallery has played an important role in driving the careers of today's famous artists. This year, The Gladstone Gallery will present works by artists such as Richard Aldrich, Matthew Barney, Ian Cheng, Philippe Parreno and Ugo Rondinone in Art Basel Hong Kong 2019. Ian Cheng, an emerging artist from the United States, has been warmly invited to international exhibitions in recent years, including MoMA, Whitney Museum of American Art and the Serpentine Galleries in U.K. His virtual image creation is refreshing, guiding the audience to think that technology is not an auxiliary reflection of our own mind, but as a vision tool that can construct history and consciousness.

In addition to the Art Basel exhibition, Taiwan’s famous minimalism artist Richard Lin also launched his first retrospective exhibition in Hong Kong around that time. More than 30 works in the exhibition are from private collections of artists' families and selected collections of important collectors. The exhibition will be held from March 18th to March 30th at the Bonhams Hong Kong Gallery in One Pacific Place Admiralty.

PMQ in Central Hong Kong will exhibit KAWS solo exhibition "KAWS: ALONG THE WAY" from March 25th to April 14th. Presented by the Hong Kong Contemporary Art (HOCA) Foundation and curated by Germano Celant, the exhibition is organized in time sequence and theme to explore KAWS's creative practice for nearly a decade. The exhibition will feature 37 pieces of KAWS's work, including the series "CHUM", "COMPANION" and "YOU".

In addition, Alex Katz, one of the most influential American living artists in the world, is currently exhibiting 23 works in the first solo exhibition in Hong Kong at Sotheby’s S|2 Gallery. The monochromatic background, minimalist lines and vivid colors on the screen are unique features of Katz's works. His works are collected by important art galleries around the world such as the Centre Pompidou in Paris and MoMA in New York.
