Wen-Shuang Hsieh (1999) is a young talented artist full of passion for painting, hailing from a modest family in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. As the only child in her family, she grew accustomed to focusing on painting alone at home from a young age. Due to her exceptional talent and interest in painting, she joined an art class in middle school to receive professional training, continuing to immerse herself in the realm of art-related studies. She is deeply grateful for the support and encouragement she has received from her family, which has allowed her to pursue a path of artistic creation.
It wasn't until she entered the National Taiwan University of Arts that she truly felt her creative journey had begun. It was during this time that she gained a clearer understanding of herself and her pursuit of themes and forms in painting. She also realized that the path of artistic creation was not a short and simple one. She recognized that her creative exploration during her university years was not enough, leading her to choose to further her studies at the Graduate Institute of Fine Arts at the National Taiwan University of Arts. This decision provided her with a more suitable environment for independent thinking and creation.
For Wen-Shuang Hsieh, painting is no longer just a part of school assignments; it has become a spiritual refuge and companion. She deeply understands the special meaning that painting holds for her. Sometimes, when she feels down, her first instinct is to start creating a piece of artwork or seek solace in painting for spiritual fulfillment.
The artist sees herself as an introverted person who doesn't particularly enjoy being understood by others. She often plays the role of an observer or keeps a certain distance from others. In her artworks, she depicts her thoughts and everyday observations from a perspective of detachment. Every time she participates in an exhibition, she experiences a sense of rawness, as her works represent messages she hasn't conveyed through words.
To avoid her works becoming too heavy or serious, she deliberately adds decorative or pleasing elements to them. This preference may stem from the state she has been in over the past two or three years, where her works exuded a sense of loneliness. She doesn't want her works to be just a personal form of expression; she hopes they can resonate with viewers and stimulate their imagination. Therefore, she deliberately employs a more cheerful atmosphere to package her works. Rather than directly depicting specific moments of ongoing activities, she hopes viewers can imagine things that have happened or have yet to happen in her works, adding a sense of amusement and uncertainty to the compositions.
Wen-Shuang Hsieh draws inspiration from the minutiae of life. She enjoys reading books and listening to music, which are closely intertwined with her artworks. Recently, she has been reading "Animal Farm," which has sparked inspiration for her creations. At times, she also derives elements of imagination from movies or places she has experienced personally.
