Thirty years after ceasing production, Sony is preparing to make another vinyl record! The company is currently working in Tokyo to produce record-cutting equipment and in the process of recruiting engineers who can reproduce the best sound quality, on par with sound engineers of the past.
In the 1970's Sony produced a record-breaking 200 million vinyl records. When the 1979 Walkman came out, people switched over to a more convenient method of storing and playing music. Then Sony became the largest CD- producing company, later on specializing in music streaming and downloads as well as in film and television production. Later, because of consumer demand for CDs and more recent technology, in 1989 Sony stopped producing vinyl records.
Due the higher quality of sound, Vinyl records have recently come back into fashion among music lovers across the globe. Vinyl records have attracted not only older nostalgic consumers but also a younger generation of music aficionados.
With the increased interest in vinyl in the market, Panasonic re-launched its' popular Technics SL-1200 turntable a few years ago.
According to Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, vinyl records will reach $ 1 billion in global revenue this year. In 2016, vinyl records in the UK outsold digital music for the first time ever.
