My name is Luciano Polverigiani. I am a ceramist and I have been working in this wonderful craft for thirty years. I like to tell stories through clay characters that dialogue with each other, discuss, seek balance. There is an invitation to play that these characters propose through scenes with more than one possible reading depending on the location of the viewer, or pieces that can change position in a work to configure "another" work. The idea of "a ceramic toy" is what drives my current search. The tension that exists in a toy that breaks or in a sculpture to play with are concepts that my works explore.
Sketches or quick drawings help me to develop a first idea that often condense into series that I turn into volume. The technique I use in the sculptures is stoneware or high temperature ceramics. The work in the workshop is completed with the preparation of materials, clays, engobes and appropriate tools. The ceramist's craft demands attention and patience so that we can discover its secrets. The error in the search is the great master.
